The Bar Council has adopted a ‘Minimum Standards on Entry Criteria, Prescribed Learning Outcomes and Statement of Prescribed Knowledge for Qualifying Law Degrees’, which set out the requirements for a Qualifying Law Degree in the Maldives. Among other requirements, the Minimum Standards for Qualifying Law Degrees set out the major and minor prescribed knowledge areas.
The Learning Outcomes (LOs) and Prescribed Knowledge Areas (PKAs) set out in this Standards Statement represent the minimum learning expected by a graduate of a Bachelor of Laws or Bachelor of Shari’ah and Law program recognized by the Bar Council of the Maldives as a qualifying law degree.
The following law institutions provide comprehensive legal education that integrates both Shari’ah and civil law, preparing graduates for diverse roles within the Maldivian legal system. The approved programs ensure that students receive a rigorous academic foundation, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in law, both within the Maldives and internationally.
Application for a Qualifying Law Degree
Applications for the approval of law programs must be submitted to the Bar Council. The application should include detailed information about the program's curriculum, faculty qualifications, and facilities. Each application will be thoroughly reviewed to ensure that the program meets the established minimum standards. Upon successful evaluation, the program may be granted official recognition.
