Relicensing Framework
The Bar Council is working towards launching its relicensing framework in 2024. As part of this effort, surveys were circulated amongst Members regarding the CPD component and based on the analysis of the survey responses and other comments we have received throughout this effort, we have developed an outline of the relicensing regime, which can be found below:
You can send in your comments to cpd@maldivesbarcouncil.org with the subject line ‘Comments to the relicensing framework’ by 3 July 2024.

Proposals for reform of the Legal Profession Act
The Law Reform Committee of the Bar Council have prepared the Bar’s draft recommendations for amendment of the Legal Profession Act.
Among the major changes proposed are:
- Reconstituting the ExCo to consist only of elected members.
- Requiring all lawyers licensed prior to the LPA to sit the Bar Exam at their first license renewal in 2024.
- Allowing law students to commence their Licensing Training during their period of study for the LLB.
- Where there is a shortage of training supervisors, allowing the BCM to organize training programs (of a minimum of 6 months) that will replace the 1-year training under an individual training supervisor.
All members of the Bar Council are invited to review the draft proposals and to share their thoughts and views on the draft proposals. Suggestions may be the emailed to the Bar Council at submissions@maldivesbarcouncil.org
